Hope yet exists for efficient plant transformation
(and early career scientists are showing the way)
A diverse group of early-career plant molecular biologists (and an engineer) gathered at the 32nd Plant and Animal Genome Conference (PAG32), held each year in January in San Diego, CA, to share challenges and opportunities in plant transformation, and how they are contributing to agriculture-led growth. Agriculture-led growth, when driven by technology and innovation, is a proven formula for greater prosperity, a diversified economy and a lighter environmental footprint for agriculture. While hope springs eternal, hope is not a strategy, thus the workshop participants shared how they’ve gone well beyond a-hope-and-a-prayer and are making transformation work for a broad spectrum of crops.
